Wilco Aviation is delighted to present the exclusive listing of Glasair II S RG G-KSIR. Currently based with us at Henstridge Airfield, G-KSIR has spent the past 20 years in the care of its current owner.
The Stoddard-Hamilton Glasair II is an American amateur-built aircraft designed by Tom Hamilton and originally produced by Stoddard-Hamilton Aircraft, later by Glasair Aviation, as a kit for home construction. First flown in 1989, it remained in production until 2012.
A development of the earlier Glasair I, the Glasair II features a cantilever low wing, side-by-side two-seat enclosed cockpit accessed via gull-wing doors, and retractable tricycle landing gear. Designed to FAR Part 23 standards, it underwent extensive testing, with the wing tested to +10.5g. As the name suggests, the aircraft is constructed from fibreglass, offering excellent strength-to-weight characteristics.
The Glasair II’s 23.3 ft (7.1 m) span wing uses a NASA GA(W)-2 airfoil and has an area of 81.3 sq ft (7.55 m²), fitted with flaps for improved take-off and landing performance. The aircraft is powered by a 180 hp Lycoming IO-360 engine, which provides an impressive cruise speed of approximately 200 knots at 6,000 ft. The acceptable power range for Super II RG models is 160 to 210 hp (119 to 157 kW).
The Glasair Super II RG is widely regarded as one of the best-handling and most aerodynamically efficient kit aircraft ever produced. Its combination of speed, range and structural integrity makes it an ideal choice for long-distance touring or fast personal transport. Built to last and designed for pilots who appreciate responsive handling and performance, the Glasair continues to set the benchmark in the experimental aircraft category.
